Summary

Last updated 10/03/2026
note

Purpose:

  • The "executive summary generator" for BI reports: it automatically distills complex BI dashboard data into narrative briefs for decision-makers.
  • It "translates" BI dashboards into decision stories your boss can understand, turning data reporting from "flipping through charts" into "reading a brief."

Benefits:

① From data to conclusions (faster decisions)

Scattered chart metrics are automatically aggregated into a brief with analytical conclusions, so your boss goes from "deciphering charts" to "reading conclusions directly," and decision response time shrinks from days to minutes.

② From passive to proactive (earlier risk detection)

Structured components such as highlight blocks and dynamic text force anomalies and their attribution into the open, leaving problems nowhere to hide in reporting materials and prompting your boss to ask follow-up questions instead of passively browsing.

③ From individual styles to consistency (less communication noise)

Standardized block templates lock in the reporting narrative, eliminating the discrepancies of each team "telling it their own way" and ensuring that every report your boss sees follows consistent logic with comparable metric definitions.

1. Content block types

A document is made up of multiple blocks, and each block corresponds to one content type.

Block typePurpose
TextA regular paragraph, the basic unit of everyday writing
Heading 1 ~ Heading 5Section headings, which also appear in the table of contents on the left
RemarksA supplementary paragraph in a smaller font size
Ordered listNumbered list items
Unordered listBulleted list items
DividerA horizontal line for visually separating sections
QuoteA quoted paragraph with a left border
Highlight blockA tip or emphasis paragraph with a background color; the border color is configurable
ChartsEmbeds a BI chart bound to a data source
Dynamic textA text block bound to a data source, into which you can insert dynamic fields
ImageUploads and displays an image, with adjustable width and alignment
LinkHyperlinked text (not a standalone block, but a style applied to text)

Best practices

2. Top toolbar

The Summary page has a toolbar at the top with two functional areas: Undo/Redo and Quick Add Components.

Undo / redo

  • Undo button (← arrow): Reverts the last action. Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + Z
  • Redo button (→ arrow): Restores the last undone action. Shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl + Y
  • Both buttons are automatically grayed out when there is nothing to undo or redo

Add components

The middle of the toolbar provides buttons for quickly inserting components: Chart, Dynamic text, Permission control, Parameter control, Image, and Link.

When you click one of these buttons, the system decides where to insert based on the current cursor position:

Cursor stateInsert behavior
No cursor in the editor (focus lost after clicking elsewhere)Appended to the very end of the document; if the document already contains an empty text block, the first empty text block is replaced
Cursor in an empty text block (empty line, empty heading, etc.)Replaces the current empty block with the target type
Cursor in a block with contentA new block is inserted below the current block

After insertion, the new block automatically scrolls into view and receives focus.

Clicking the Chart button opens the chart type selection panel; select a specific chart type to insert it.

Other tools

  • Permission control: Inserts a permission control component, which is added directly to the top and pinned
  • Parameter control: Click it and select a parameter control type; it is also added directly to the top

3. Insert content blocks

Method 1: Slash command (recommended)

Type / at the start of any text line or on an empty line to open the content block menu, then select the target type.

  • After you select a type, the current line becomes that type (an empty line is replaced, and a line with content is switched as well)

Method 2: + button on the left

Move the pointer to the left of any empty content block. When the action bar appears, hover over the + button to expand the type selection menu.

  • Click the + button directly: If the current block is an empty text block, it is replaced; otherwise, the new block is appended below the current block
  • Hover over the + button: A menu pops up for selecting a specific type (same logic as above)

Method 3: Add below in the block action menu

Click the block type icon in the action bar on the left to open the block action menu, select Add below at the bottom, and then select the target type in the type panel that expands.

4. Switch block type

Place the cursor in a block and switch its type in either of the following ways:

Method 1: Block action menu Click the block type icon on the left → select a new type at the top of the menu that pops up

Method 2: Floating toolbar after selecting text After you select text, a Turn into button appears on the toolbar above it. Click it and select the target type; the text content is kept and the selection is preserved.

Note: Dividers, charts, dynamic text, and images don't appear in the Turn into list because they aren't text types.

5. Edit text styles

After you select text, the floating toolbar above it provides the following formatting actions:

ActionDescription
BoldBolds the selected text
ItalicDisplays text in italics
UnderlineAdds an underline
StrikethroughDraws a line through the middle of the text
Text colorApplies a color chosen from the palette to the selected text
Background colorAdds a highlight background to the selected text
LinkAdds a hyperlink to the selected text (see section 9)
Turn intoSwitches the current block type (see section 4)
Alignment/indentationAdjusts the alignment and indentation level of the current block

6. Block styles

Set these in the block action menu on the left; they apply to the entire block:

Color

Click the Color option in the action menu to set:

  • Text color: The color of all text in the block
  • Background color: The background fill color of the block
  • Border color (highlight blocks only): The left border color of the highlight block
  • Reset: Clears all colors and restores the defaults

How this differs from the color actions on the selection toolbar: The block action menu applies to the entire block, while the selection toolbar applies to the selected text range.

Alignment and indentation

Click the Indentation and alignment option in the action menu to set:

  • Alignment: Left / Center / Right
  • Indentation: Indent right (increase level) / Indent left (decrease level)

You can also use shortcuts: Tab increases indentation and Shift + Tab decreases it (text-type blocks only)

7. Copy and delete blocks

Use the block action menu:

  • Copy: Inserts an identical copy below the current block

    • Chart blocks: The copy has its own independent chart configuration; the two don't affect each other
    • Dynamic text blocks: The copy keeps the original text structure and field bindings, with independent field references
  • Delete: Deletes the current block (for charts and dynamic text, the associated data configuration is deleted as well)

Delete with the keyboard:

  • Press Backspace at the start of an empty block: Deletes the block
  • For non-text blocks (charts, dividers, images), press Backspace while the block is selected: Deletes it directly

8. Drag to reorder

Move the pointer to the left of a block. When the action bar appears:

  1. Find the drag handle (the vertical six-dot icon)
  2. Hold the handle and drag it to the target position
  3. Release the mouse button to complete the reordering

While you drag, a blue-purple line at the target position indicates where the block will be dropped.

When you hover over a block, a drag handle appears on the left:

While you drag, a blue-purple line marks the drop position:

  • Method 1: From the top toolbar Click the link button on the toolbar to insert a new Paragraph based on the cursor position

1. Click the link button on the top toolbar.

2. In the edit box that pops up, enter the text and link, and click Confirm.

  • Method 2: From the slash menu Type /link and select Link. In the link edit box that pops up, enter the display text and URL, then confirm

1. Type / on an empty line and select Link from the menu.

2. In the edit box that pops up, enter the text and link, and click Confirm.

  • Method 3: Add to selected text Select existing text → click the link button on the floating toolbar → an edit box pops up (with the text prefilled); enter the URL and confirm. Only the selected text range is replaced; the rest of the paragraph is unaffected.

1. Select the text and click the link button on the floating toolbar.

2. The text in the edit box is prefilled with the selected text. Enter the link and click Confirm.

When you hover over linked text, a popover appears above it:

  • Edit button (pencil icon): Opens the edit box to change the text or URL
  • Unlink button (broken-link icon): Removes the link style and keeps the text

1. Hover over the linked text; a popover appears above it.

2. Click the unlink button (broken-link icon) in the popover.

  • The URL must include a valid protocol (http://, https://, ftp://). You can omit it when typing, and the system automatically adds https://
  • In the edit box, press Enter to confirm or Escape to cancel

10. Chart blocks

Insert a chart

Select Chart from the top toolbar, the slash menu, or the + menu, then select a specific chart type to insert it. The chart configuration opens automatically in the right panel.

Configure a chart

In the Display Settings panel on the right:

  • Select a data source (sheet)
  • Configure fields such as dimensions and metrics
  • Adjust the chart type, style, and more

Delete a chart

Click Delete in the block action menu; the chart block and its data configuration are removed together.

1. Hover over the chart block and click the block type icon on its left to open the block action menu.

2. Click Delete in the block action menu.

11. Dynamic text blocks

Dynamic text is a special kind of text block: You can embed dynamic fields (dimension values or metric values) in its content, and they are automatically replaced with real data in preview.

Insert dynamic text

Select Dynamic text from the top toolbar, the slash menu, or the + menu. The block automatically enters edit mode, and the data configuration opens in the right panel.

1. Click Dynamic text on the top toolbar.

2. After the dynamic text block is inserted, it automatically enters edit mode, and the data configuration opens in the right panel.

Edit mode

A dynamic text block has two states:

StatusAppearanceHow to enter
Preview stateShows real dataDefault state
Edit stateType text and insert fieldsDouble-click the block, or click the pencil icon in its upper-right corner

After you enter edit state, the cursor is at the end of the content, and you can start typing right away.

Insert a dynamic field

In edit state, click the Field Parameters button on the toolbar in the upper-right corner of the block and select the dimension or metric field to insert. The field is embedded in the text as a tag.

The field tag shows the field name and is replaced with the actual data value in preview.

Text style

Dynamic text supports the same text styles as headings. Switch styles on the toolbar in the upper-right corner of the block:

  • Normal text
  • Heading 1 ~ Heading 5
  • Remarks

Exit edit mode

Click a blank area of the page to exit edit mode; the block returns to preview state

Backspace behavior

  • In preview state, press Backspace: Deletes the entire block (same as a regular block)
  • In edit state, with the cursor in the middle of the content: Deletes characters or field tags as usual
  • In edit state, with the cursor at the start of the line: Does not delete the block, to prevent accidental deletion

12. Image blocks

Insert an image

Select Image from the top toolbar, the slash menu, or the + menu. An upload placeholder appears; click it to upload an image.

Upload methods

  • Local upload: Supports JPG, JPEG, and PNG, up to 10 MB
  • Upload via URL

Adjust width

After you click an image to select it, drag handles appear at its four corners. Drag left or right to adjust the image width (10%~100%).

1. Click the image to select it; drag handles appear at its four corners.

2. Hold a drag handle and drag left or right to adjust the image width.

Adjust alignment

Use the Indentation and alignment option in the block action menu to align the image left, center, or right.

13. Table of contents

A table of contents is automatically generated on the left side of the document from all heading blocks (Heading 1 ~ Heading 5).

  • Click a TOC item: The page scrolls to the corresponding heading, and the cursor is placed at the end of that heading
  • Collapse the TOC: Click the collapse button at the top of the TOC to fold it; an expand button remains in the upper-left corner
  • Empty headings don't appear in the TOC

14. Keyboard shortcuts

ShortcutEffect
/Open the content block menu
TabIncrease the indentation of the current block
Shift + TabDecrease the indentation of the current block
Enter (empty list item)Exit the list and convert to normal text
Enter (empty quote / empty highlight block)Remove the quote/highlight style and revert to normal text
Enter (empty heading / empty note)Insert a new text block below
Backspace (start of an empty block)Delete the current block
Cmd/Ctrl + ZUndo
Cmd/Ctrl + YRedo

15. Preview and read-only modes

  • Preview mode: All editing features are turned off, and charts and dynamic text display real data; the action bar and placeholder hints are hidden
  • Read-only mode: Same as preview mode; used for embedded display scenarios

1. In edit mode, click Preview in the upper-right corner.

2. In preview mode, the top toolbar and the settings panel on the right are no longer shown, and the button in the upper-right corner changes to Back to edit.

16. FAQ

Q: The menu doesn't appear after I type a slash?

Slash commands only trigger in text-type blocks (text, headings, lists, etc.); they don't work in special blocks such as charts, images, and dividers.

Q: Tab indentation has no effect?

Special blocks such as charts, dynamic text, images, and dividers don't support indentation, so the Tab key has no effect in them.

Q: Components inserted from the top toolbar always appear at the end of the document?

This happens because the editor lost focus (the cursor disappeared) before you clicked the toolbar button. Click in the document first to place the cursor at the target position, then click the toolbar button to insert at that position.

Q: Do a copied chart and the original chart affect each other?

No. After copying, charts and dynamic text each have their own independent data configuration; changing one doesn't affect the other.

Q: Pressing Backspace at the start of a line in dynamic text edit state does nothing?

This is by design: Backspace at the start of a line is intercepted to prevent accidentally deleting the entire dynamic text block. To delete the block, exit edit state and click Delete in the block action menu.

Q: The link input box reports a URL format error?

The URL must start with http://, https://, or ftp://. If you enter a bare domain (such as example.com), the system automatically completes it as https://example.com.
