Explore with dimension drill-down

Last updated 06/25/2026

Dimension drill-down is an exploration path that goes from the big picture to the details. With a well-designed drill-down path, you can pinpoint the likely causes of the problems you find more precisely. Common drill-down paths include:

  • Country > Province > City
  • Year > Month > Day
  • Level-1 product category > Level-2 category

By configuring dimension drill-down, you can give viewers an exploration path from the big picture to the details

Drill-down configuration

You can find the drill-down configuration entry in the drop-down options of a dimension or sub-dimension field

Clicking it opens a dialog. After you turn on hierarchical drill-down, you can add dimensions, up to 4 levels.

After the configuration is complete, the field on the right is marked with an icon. A chart can have multiple drill-down paths.

Currently, dimension drill-down can be configured for chart components of these types: table, pivot table, line chart, bar chart, stacked bar chart, and percent stacked bar chart.

Drill down by dimension

Charts with dimension drill-down configured have an extra indicator. The current drill-down path is shown below the chart, and you can click it to go back

Where you can drill down depends on the chart type:

  • Table

Drill-down entries are shown with a blue underline. Click one to go to the next level

  • Pivot table

Drill-down entries for row dimensions are the same as for tables. Drill-down entries for column dimensions are in the table header

  • Line chart

Click a data point to view the drill-down

  • Bar chart

Click a bar to view the drill-down
