Session Replay

Last updated 10/02/2026

This is a value-added feature. Contact your customer success manager to enable it

1. Feature overview

Session Replay reconstructs a user's visit to a web page and brings together the session information and user information associated with that visit. Use it to troubleshoot page interaction issues, observe users' browsing paths, and quickly locate key actions in a session.

The page has three areas:

AreaPurpose
Session list on the leftSearch, filter, and select sessions
Replay area in the middlePlay the recording and adjust progress, speed, and how idle segments are handled
Information area on the rightView session details, AI Summary, user properties, and user tags

2. Before you begin

Before you start, make sure that:

  1. The value-added feature is enabled
  2. Session recording is enabled for the current project
  3. Your product has integrated the Session Replay SDK

Session Replay is enabled per project and must be turned on in Project Settings

3. Find a session

In Search session / account / distinct in the upper-left corner, enter a session ID, account ID, or distinct ID to search.

After the search, only matching sessions remain on the left. Each session card shows the visitor identifier, session start time, session duration, and entry path.

Search for a specific session

After you click a session card, check the full session ID in Session Details on the right.

3.2 Select a date range

Click the current date on the left to use a built-in time range or set a custom time.

Built-in ranges include Yesterday, Today, Last week, This week, Last month, This month, Last 7D, Recent 7D, Last 30 days, and Recent 30D. The page also supports Until Yesterday, Until Today, and custom start and end times.

Select a date range

After making your selection, click Apply. The session list refreshes with the new time range.

3.3 Switch the display time zone

Click the time zone to the right of the quick search to choose local time or a time zone configured in the project. You can also click Manage to go to the project configuration.

Switch the display time zone

The time zone affects how times are displayed in the session list and details. When troubleshooting across regions, first confirm the current time zone, and then compare it with the times in business logs or user feedback.

3.4 Use advanced filters

Click the funnel icon above the session list to open Advanced filters. Filtering has two parts:

  • Session Property Filter: add conditions based on session fields.
  • Subject Selection: add cohort conditions to limit the range of users you want to view.
Advanced filters

Click Add session property, then select a property and an operator and enter a condition value. By default, the page adds a Session ID is condition, and you can add other session properties.

Add a session property filter

When you're done, click Apply filter. To clear the current conditions, click Reset.

Refresh and sort buttons are also available above the session list. After you adjust the date, time zone, or filter conditions, click the refresh button to reload the list.

4. Play a session

Click a session card on the left, and the middle area loads the recording of that session. The replay area provides the following controls:

ControlPurpose
Back, Play/Pause, ForwardControl the replay
Progress barDrag to a specific point in time
Skip idleWhen on, skips idle segments with no actions
0.5x、1x、1.5x、2xAdjust the replay speed

During playback, Playing appears in the upper-left corner of the middle area, the play button changes to a pause button, and the progress bar updates accordingly.

Play a session replay

Both the session list on the left and the information area on the right provide Fold. When you need more space for the replay, fold both side areas or click the full-screen button in the upper-right corner of the replay area.

5. View session information

5.1 Session details

Session Details on the right shows the basic and collected information of the current session, mainly including:

  • Session ID, start time, end time, and session duration.
  • Account ID, distinct ID, and device ID.
  • Time zone offset, operating system, browser, and browser version.
  • URL, URL path, and page title.
  • Message count, event count, partition date, and SDK-related fields.

When troubleshooting a specific issue, first confirm the session ID and time, and then locate the issue using the URL, device environment, event count, and replay content.

5.2 User properties

Switch to User Properties to view the current user's selected properties and property values in the project, such as account ID and distinct ID.

View user properties

The number of currently selected properties is shown at the top of the page. Property settings may differ between projects; what the current page shows takes precedence.

5.3 User tags

Switch to User tags to search by tag name and view the tags the current user belongs to by category. If no tag matches, the page shows User not tagged in latest tag version.

6. Use AI Summary

6.1 View a generated summary

AI Summary is an asynchronous task. Being able to play a session's data doesn't mean the summary has been generated. If the summary isn't ready yet, wait for the task to finish; later, refresh the session list, select the session again, and then open AI Summary.

After selecting a session, click AI Summary on the right. When generation completes, the page includes:

  • AI summary: summarizes the visiting device, entry page, session duration, main browsing or interaction process, and end state.
  • Key Actions: lists key actions such as page loads, browsing, clicks, and navigation in chronological order.
AI Summary generated

AI Summary is generated automatically by the system from the recording and is suited for quick browsing. To confirm the details of an action, still check the original replay and the session details.

6.2 Jump to the replay from a key action

The blue time points to the left of Key Actions are clickable. After you click one, the replay in the middle jumps to the corresponding time.

For example, after you click [0:16], the replay progress jumps to 00:16, so you can directly check the page state before and after that action.

7. FAQ

7.1 The target session can't be found

Check the following in order:

  1. Whether the current project is correct.
  2. Whether the date range covers the time the session occurred.
  3. Whether the time zone matches the one used in your business records.
  4. Whether what you entered in the quick search is a session, account, or distinct identifier.
  5. Whether other restrictive conditions remain in the advanced filters. You can open the filter panel and click Reset.

7.2 The replay opens, but AI Summary has no content

AI Summary is generated asynchronously, so the replay and the summary may become ready at different times. Wait a while, click the refresh button, select the session again, and open AI Summary.

7.3 The time on the page doesn't match the time in user feedback

Check the time zone currently displayed in the upper-left corner. Switch to the user's time zone or the time zone used in business logs, and then compare the session start time and the key action time points.
