Retention Analysis visualization settings

Last updated 10/02/2026

In addition to configuring the retention definition, you can use Customize Charts to display data in a way that better fits your analysis needs.

Only show key dates

If you analyze 30-day retention, results from the next day through day 30 are shown by default. If you care more about key milestones such as the next day, day 3, day 7, and day 30, select Only show key dates in the visualization settings to filter out the data of unselected dates.

The table then keeps only the columns for the key dates, and you can also use Daily Retention to quickly compare how different batches of new users perform on the key dates.

Adjust the display granularity

In real business, daily retention data may differ only slightly from day to day, so you usually find the problematic week first and then drill down to specific dates. In this case, you can analyze retention by day and set the display granularity to Week. You can also summarize the display to quickly compare next-day, 3-day, and other retention metrics across weeks or months.

Different metrics are calculated differently in summarized display, as follows:

Analysis metricsCalculation logic
Initial usersSimple sum of each day's data in the week or month
Retained usersSimple sum
Retention rateWeighted average, that is, the simple sum of retained users / the simple sum of initial users
Churned usersSimple sum

Churn rate

Weighted average, that is, the simple sum of churned users / the simple sum of initial users
Metric on Initial date

If it isn't a formula, the calculation logic is a simple sum

If it's a formula, the calculation logic is a weighted average

Also Show metricSame as above

Note that summarized display is based only on the currently selected time range and divides the data into weeks or months by first event date, so some weeks or months may be incomplete.

For example, if the period you select is January 1 to January 7 and January 1 is a Wednesday, summarizing by week splits the period into two "weeks":

  • Week of December 30: includes data from January 1~January 5
  • Week of January 6: includes data from January 6~January 7
