Scenarios - Heatmap

Last updated 10/03/2026

Heatmap is a model built specifically for game map analysis needs. With a heatmap, you can analyze how player behaviors are distributed on the map, and compare how different user groups are distributed for the same behavior. A heatmap helps you verify whether player behaviors under the current map design meet expectations, so that you can adjust subsequent game updates.

Heatmap can answer questions such as:

  • As a map designer, how do users move around the map, and does it match the design expectations?
  • As a game economy designer, how many resources do users obtain in different areas of the map?

Configure a heatmap

The analysis configuration of a heatmap includes the following elements:

  • Heat event: The event to analyze on the map. Custom events are supported. For event filtering, see Filter data
  • Calculation (metric): The metric built from the Heat event, which is used to calculate the heat values on the map. You build it the same way as in other analysis models
  • Event coordinates: The properties that map events to map coordinates. You can use event properties (properties of the Heat event) or user properties
  • Map file: The map that the heatmap analysis targets
  • You can select a map in two ways: Upload Map, or select a previously used map
  • The map must be in JPG or PNG format, and the file can't exceed 10 MB
  • After you upload the map, specify the tracking coordinates of the map's lower-left and upper-right corners, so that the map aligns with the Event coordinates in the model configuration

Heat events support a new event processing method: First or last event filter

Methods supported by First or last event filter:

  • first, last

    • The first or last event of each Users entity in the selected time window
  • max by, min by

    • You need to select a property, which must be of the numeric or time type
    • The event with the maximum or minimum value of that property in the selected time window

First or last event filter processes the Heat event with the selected method. For each Users entity, only one event is kept, the first one (or the last, max by, or min by one), and this event is used to generate the corresponding metric

To compare how the metrics of different groups are distributed on the map, use Multi-group Comparison

  • You need at least two groups, and up to four groups are supported
  • Add filter conditions to form different groups
  • If a group has no filter conditions, it represents all data
  • To compare heatmaps of different time ranges, filter by Event Time

View model results

After you configure all model conditions, click Calculate. The heatmap result appears on the right, and the map is rendered:

  • Calculation logic: The processed and filtered Heat event is aggregated into a result value for each coordinate position according to the rules of Calculation (metric) and the selected x-axis and y-axis coordinate properties, and the result values are returned
  • Heatmap rendering: The heatmap component aggregates values based on the relationship between coordinate positions and the current rendering radius, and then assigns colors
  • Point value: The metric result for the coordinates under the mouse cursor

The lower-right corner of the heatmap provides a visualization adjustment panel

  • Zoom in on and drag the map area to view key areas
  • Change the color theme. Four color themes are currently available
  • Adjust the opacity and heatmap radius to make the heatmap look the way you want

When there are multiple comparison groups, you can select Sync Zoom in the upper-right corner of the visualization area:

  • Selected: All comparison groups zoom in and out together, and dragging the map display area is synced across groups
  • Not selected: You can operate each comparison group independently
