Tracking plan
Before you analyze data, plan the events, event properties, and user properties to collect based on your analysis needs, and turn them into a tracking plan. Reporting user behavior data in a timely, accurate, and complete manner according to the finalized tracking plan is the prerequisite for data analysis.
In practice, repeated changes to the tracking plan caused by multiple product iterations, or maintenance by multiple people, make it hard to keep a project's tracking plan consistent. The tracking plan management tool that the AE system provides for projects lets you quickly generate a tracking plan, locate data issues promptly, and keep analysis results usable.
You can use the tracking plan managed in the system during data validation to check whether reported data conforms to the plan. Before data is stored, you can also use it to check whether the data meets the data processing rules in Strict Verification and Customize modes.
A project's overall tracking plan consists of the following three parts:
- Events: The events planned for reporting and their event properties.
- Super Properties: If every event has a certain property, you can manage that property as a super property so that you don't need to configure it in each event. Super properties must be set manually during tracking. For how to set them, see the user guide of each integration platform.
- User Properties: The user properties planned for reporting.
The following describes how to use the three parts of the project's overall Tracking Plan management: Create Tracking Plan, View Tracking Plan, and Edit Tracking Plan.
1. Add a tracking plan
In + Tracking Plan, select [Bulk upload] or [Add plan] to add a tracking plan. For bulk upload, organize the plan with the tracking plan template before you upload it.
If no tracking plan has been created in your project yet, you can click [the template] to download it and create your first tracking plan according to the template rules.
If your project already has reported data and you want to maintain a tracking plan based on the existing tracking, select click to sync existing metadata to create a plan based on the reported data.
Note:
- This operation doesn't generate plans for preset properties.
- This operation can't identify super properties. To manage them separately, adjust them manually.
You can also generate a tracking plan with AI. Just provide your project information to get a tracking plan that Agentic Engine generates based on years of service experience.
2. View the tracking plan
(1) Click an event name to view the details of the event
(2) Click the property search box and select a property that isn't a super property to view the list of events associated with that property
(3) Filter the list by searching for information such as Event name, Display Name, Event description, and Creator
3. Edit the tracking plan
After you add a tracking plan, you can edit it as needed.
When a product iteration requires a few new tracking events, you can select [Add plan] to add events, event properties, or user properties to the current plan.
You can also modify the original configuration in the detail cards of Events, Super Properties, and User Properties.
You can also delete an event, event property, or user property directly, or clear the entire tracking plan. Note that these operations apply only to the plan and don't affect reported data.
4. FAQ
- Downloaded project metadata contains no super properties
Super properties in a tracking plan are properties that apply to every event. They're designed to make tracking easier to maintain, so you don't need to fill them in repeatedly under each event. However, project metadata has no concept of super properties, so the downloaded project metadata doesn't contain any super property records.
