Currency exchange
When your game business involves multiple currencies, reported event properties can contain amount data in multiple currencies. When you analyze these events, you can convert amount properties in different currencies into amount properties in a specified currency. AE provides a convenient currency exchange feature that supports exchange rate conversion between multiple currencies.
The system provides preset daily reference exchange rates for 150+ currencies. The exchange rates for the day are added in the early morning (UTC) every day and are used for currency conversion calculations on that day's user behavior data. Historical data starts from 2017-01-01. During calculation, exchange rate dates are matched one-to-one with user behavior dates (processed in the UTC+0 time zone).
On this page, you can enable the currency exchange settings in Configure the exchange rate data source.
1. Add conversion rules to generate exchange currency amount properties
In the Data Source and Start to Integrate dialogs, turn the preset data source integration on or off with one click. When the status shows Connected, click Add Currency.
You can then configure conversion rules between different currencies.
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| Target currency | The currency used in analysis, that is, the currency to convert to. |
| Original currency property | A tracked event property reported in standard currency code format (ISO 4217, such as CNY and USD) that records the currency type of the event. It must be reported together with the amount property. |
Original currency amount property | A numeric tracked event property that records the amount of the event. It must be reported together with the currency. |
| Conversion rule | A conversion rule consists of 3 parameters: target currency, original currency property, and original currency amount property. |
Exchange currency amount property | The currency amount property obtained by converting at the daily reference exchange rate between the target currency and the reported currency property. You can use this property in scenarios such as analysis models, cohorts, and tags. |
You can add multiple target currencies. Each conversion rule of a target currency generates an exchange currency amount property, which you can view and manage in Data > Management > Event Properties.
If different events use different event properties for the currency and the currency amount when they are reported, you can add different conversion rules.
2. Delete exchange currency amount properties
Clicking Delete on a currency card also deletes all conversion rules of that exchange currency and the exchange currency amount properties generated from them. This cannot be undone.
In the Set conversion rules drawer, when a currency has multiple conversion rules, hovering over a rule shows a delete button. Click it to delete that rule and the exchange currency amount property generated from it. When a currency has only one conversion rule, no delete button is shown for the rule, and you can only delete the entire currency card.
3. Error scenarios
When a tracked property that a currency property depends on is deleted or its data type is changed, the corresponding currency configuration shows an error mark.
When you click to view the rule details, the system shows the names of the properties with errors.
In this case, you can contact a data management member to check and restore the related properties, or directly delete the current rule with errors and create a new rule based on the new properties.
