Analysis model options
When you analyze data with a model, you can adjust some options to get data results that better fit your needs. This section explains the logic of some of these options.
Approximate calculation
When an analysis model uses calculation methods such as uniques, times per user, per-user values, and deduplicated counts, it uses exact calculation by default. Because deduplication consumes a large amount of computing resources, you can turn on Approx. Calculation (callout 1) to improve query efficiency. AE then uses the approx_distinct function instead of distinct, which greatly reduces resource overhead. Compared with exact calculation, Approx. Calculation has an error of about 4‰.
Manual refresh
To reduce resource overhead, an analysis model caches the data results for 10 minutes after calculation by default. If your query conditions haven't changed, clicking the Calculate button within 10 minutes returns the same data results. When the time range you select includes Today, the cached data results may be inaccurate. You can click Manual refresh (callout 2) to get the latest data results.
Download full data in page format
To improve rendering performance and the data viewing experience, AE displays the data results of the first 1000 group-by values by default.
If there are more than 1000 group-by values, a notice appears on the analysis model page. In this case, clicking Export exports a CSV file based only on the data displayed on the page, that is, the data results of the first 1000 group-by items. To analyze the full data, use Download full data in page format (callout 3) to download a CSV file based on the complete data.
Sort groups
If you have set group-by items or an event breakdown, you can change the sort order of the group-by values in the chart (callout 4). Group sorting applies only to the chart. To change the sort order in the table, click the table headers to sort.
- Value low → high: Sorts by the data of the first metric in ascending order
- Value high → low: Sorts by the data of the first metric in descending order, so the best-performing group-by values come first
- Alpha A→ Z: Sorts by name in ascending lexicographic (alphabetical) order. Numeric values are sorted from smallest to largest
- Alpha Z→ A: Sorts by name in descending lexicographic order. Numeric values are sorted from largest to smallest
Note: To improve rendering performance and the data viewing experience, AE displays the data results of the first 1000 group-by values by default, and the group sort order applies only to these group-by values rather than all of them. To display more group-by values on the page, contact your customer success manager to adjust the display limit.
