Member management

Last updated 06/25/2026

Project admins, Project Owners, and Root users can edit the members in a project, along with their roles and data permissions, for precise authorization.

Add members

There are 2 ways to add members: create new members and add existing members.

  • Create new members

When you create a member, enter the member account and display name, and set the role and data permissions. You can generate new accounts in bulk by separating the accounts with commas. Member accounts generated in this project get permissions for this project by default after they log in.

  • Add existing members

If a member already has an account, you can use Invite Existing Member to add the member to the current project and grant permissions. The member's roles and data permissions in this project can differ from those in the original project.

To add all members of another project to this project, you can use Import members to add them all at once. Imported members keep their roles from the original project. If a member uses a custom role in the original project, the same custom role is created in the new project during the import to keep the member's permissions consistent. If the original project has a Project Owner, that Project Owner is imported into the new project as a project admin. Only Root users can use Import members.

Remove members

When a member no longer participates in this project, the project admin can remove the member and choose how to handle the assets that the member manages in this project.

Member assets include: team spaces, dashboards, reports, behavioral cohorts, ID cohorts, tags, alerts, custom properties, and dimension table properties

Removing a member from a project doesn't delete the member from the system. The member can still be active in other projects.

To delete a member directly, see System Settings.

When you remove a member, you need to hand over the member's assets to other members. The members who receive the assets can continue to use and manage them.

Set member roles and data permissions

Root users, Project Owners, or roles with the Member Management permission can set permissions for all members, including project admins.

Click Edit in the member list to modify a member's roles and data permissions

A single member can have multiple roles. Once set, the permissions of all these roles are granted to the member

  • Bulk edit member roles and data permissions

When an admin needs to adjust the roles and data permissions of multiple members at once, the admin can select the members and edit them in bulk.

Create a member group

In daily use of AE, for operations such as dashboard sharing, sharing by individual member makes setting up sharing for multiple dashboards tedious, and whenever new members join the project, you have to keep changing the dashboards' sharing status for them.

Member groups solve this problem. You can add members with the same function to a member group, such as a product group or an operations group, and quickly share with all members of the group. When a new member joins the project, you only need to add the member to an existing member group, and the member can view the project assets shared with that group.

  • A member can belong to multiple member groups
  • Member groups can only be created in projects. System-level member groups are not available yet
  • Each project can have up to 50 member groups
