Template Gallery
In the Template Gallery, you can get AE best practices that ThinkingAI analysts have distilled from common business scenarios across industries. You can also create custom templates to capture your company's internal analysis experience and share them with other members in the system.
Use templates
Use dashboard templates
Dashboard templates give you analysis approaches, and you can build a dashboard in one click by configuring the template parameters.
Click a dashboard template to preview its content, including the dashboard preview and the dashboard description. The analysis description gives suggestions on how to apply the dashboard metrics.
To build a dashboard from the template, click Use template to open the template's usage page.
- The right side of the page lists the parameters the current template needs. You can match them by name to the corresponding fields in the current project (events, event properties, user properties, and so on). For the parameter rules, see Template parameter rules
- After you finish adjusting the parameters, click Preview in the upper right to see how the dashboard data displays with the current parameter settings
Click Save to create the dashboard in one click. After the dashboard is created, you can customize its reports as needed.
If your project's tracking is not yet complete, you can still save the template when some parameters are missing. In that case, only some of the dashboard reports are generated. Preview the result before you save the dashboard to understand the status of the reports.
Use other analysis templates
In addition to dashboard templates, AE provides preset templates for reports, custom properties, user tags, cohorts, and more.
Report templates help you build commonly used analysis metrics. Custom property, user tag, and cohort templates help you build commonly used analysis fields and understand the product features.
Custom templates
Create a template
Besides the AE preset templates, you can create custom templates to capture your company's internal analysis experience and share them with other members in the system.
In the upper right of a dashboard, open More options and click Save As a Template to open the page for creating a dashboard template.
On this page, you can:
- Complete the basic information of the dashboard, for example, use Description to describe how the dashboard is built and how to use it
- Confirm the dashboard parameters and add the necessary parameter descriptions to help users understand the template parameters
After completing the above, click Create to view your template in the Template Gallery.
Share a template
By default, a custom template is visible only to you, and you can use it to build dashboards across projects. If you want other members in the system to use the template, you can share it.
Edit a template
You can edit and update a saved template, including its basic information and template parameters.
If the source dashboard of a template changes, for example, a new report is added, you can sync the change to the template. On the template's edit page, click Update Parameters to get the information of the template's source dashboard and sync its status.
Template parameter rules
Template parameter sources
Template parameters are fields extracted from analysis reports, such as tracked events, properties, tags, and cohorts. Depending on the parameter types involved in the dashboards and reports, a template may contain the following parameter types:
| Business parameter type | Description |
|---|---|
| Event | Tracked events involved in the analysis |
| Metric | Metric fields involved in the analysis |
| Event properties | Event property fields involved in the analysis |
| User property | User property fields involved in the analysis |
| Entity | Entities involved in the analysis |
| Cohorts | Cohorts involved in the analysis |
| User tags | User tags involved in the analysis |
Where:
For the concept of metrics, see Metrics
For entities, see Entities
Some templates involve fields that need to be processed with features such as custom properties and tags. Hover over the end of a field to view the parameter description.
Template parameter input constraints
1. Field type constraints
Properties of different types support different aggregation and filter logic. For example, numeric properties support filter logic such as greater than, equal to, and less than, while text properties support contains. Therefore, for fields in a template that involve aggregation methods or filter logic (such as event properties, user properties, and user tags), the field types that can be entered as parameters are restricted to ensure that the field type matches the analysis logic.
2. Association constraints
The range of event properties you can select depends on their association with the behavior event (or metric). As shown in the image above, when you select the event property parameter Online Users, you can choose only from the properties associated with the event Online Data.
If a property is associated with multiple events, you only need to specify it once under the first related event.
As shown in the image above, Lifecycle Days is associated with multiple events. You only need to specify it under the first event, and the specified property field is automatically filled in for the other events.
Template permissions
Permission control for viewing and editing template content
| Permission details | Root | Project Owner | Analytics Admin | Analyst | Member |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| View templates | ● | ● | ● | ▲ | ○ |
| Create, edit, share, and delete templates | ● | ● | ● | ▲ | ○ |
| Edit and delete others' templates | ● | ○ | ○ | ○ | ○ |
Permission notes:
● The role always has this permission
▲ The role has this permission by default, but it can be removed
△ The role doesn't have this permission by default, but it can be granted
○ The role never has this permission
Permission control for creating data assets from templates
To create data assets from a template, you also need permission to create the corresponding data assets. For example, a user must have the Create Custom Property feature permission to create assets from a custom property template.
FAQ
- No selectable fields
The selection of event properties is constrained by the associated events and field types, and the selection of user properties and user tags is constrained by field types. If the field selector has no selectable fields, there is no field of that data type (under the associated event). Add tracking for that type of property, or generate it with features such as custom properties and tags.
