Space deletion
Overview
Space deletion cleans up DataOps spaces that are no longer used. The system first checks running tasks and external dependencies, then stops tasks and cleans up assets, permissions, metadata, and resources.
Applies to cleaning up test spaces, historical spaces, and permanently abandoned spaces. Deletion can't be undone, and recovery, a recycle bin, and undoing a deletion aren't supported.
Use cases
Scenario 1: Remove the space and keep the data
User roles: System admin, DataOps space admin
Background: The space is no longer used, but its Hive data still needs to be kept
Pain point: Tasks and platform assets can't be cleaned up all at once
How to use: Select Remove space from system
Scenario 2: Permanently delete the space
User roles: System admin, DataOps space admin
Background: Neither the space nor its data is needed anymore
Pain point: Historical assets keep occupying resources
How to use: Select Delete space to permanently delete the physical data
Feature entry
Entry path:
System Settings > Data development > Space management > More in the upper-right corner of the target space card > Delete
Permissions:
- root: System admin
- dw_root: DataOps space admin
Regular members don't have permission, and the system default space can't be deleted
Feature details
1. Pre-deletion check
Overview
Checks tasks being released, backfill tasks, running tasks, cross-space dependencies, and external system references
Instructions
- Start the deletion and wait for the check to complete
- Review the risk warnings
- Migrate or stop the related dependencies first
Result
The system shows the check results and the asset list
Notes
Deletion must not affect the normal operation of other spaces
2. Choose a deletion method
Overview
| Deletion method | Result |
|---|---|
| Remove space from system | Cleans up platform-side assets and keeps the Hive physical data |
| Delete a space | Also permanently deletes the physical tables and data files |
Instructions
Choose a deletion method based on whether you need to keep the data
Result
The system determines the cleanup scope based on the selected method
Notes
Delete space has no recycle bin, and the data can't be recovered
3. Confirm and run
Overview
The system shows the data sources, Flows, Offline Sync, real-time tasks, data tables, views, scripts, authorization policies, and space members
Instructions
- Check the asset counts
- Confirm that important data has been backed up
- Submit the deletion
Result
The system freezes the space, then stops tasks, deletes assets, and releases resources in the background
Notes
While the deletion is in progress, the space can't be accessed, and no changes are saved
Procedure
Scenario: Delete a space
Step 1:
User action: Go to space management and click Delete
System response: Checks tasks, dependencies, and external references
Step 2:
User action: Choose a deletion method, check the assets, and confirm
System response: Freezes the space and runs the deletion in the background
Step 3:
Result: Tasks are stopped, assets are cleaned up according to the selected method, and the space can't be recovered
FAQ
Q: Why is there no delete entry?
A:
Cause: The account doesn't have permission, or the target is the system default space
Solution: Contact root or dw_root
Q: What should I do if cross-space dependencies are found?
A:
Cause: Other spaces or systems are still using assets of the current space
Solution: Migrate or stop the references, then run the check again
Q: What should I do if the deletion fails?
A:
Cause: A deletion step failed
Solution: View the failure reason. If the page offers a retry, fix the issue and continue; otherwise, contact platform operations
Q: Can I restore a space after deleting it?
A:
Cause: Space deletion is irreversible
Solution: The space can't be restored. Complete a backup before you delete it
Best practices
- Notify space members and downstream owners before deletion
- Migrate cross-space, BI, and integration task dependencies first
- Complete a data backup before permanent deletion
- If you're not sure whether to keep the data, select Remove space from system
